Follow Friday: Messy Nessy Chic, BrainPickings and Bonus Mohawk

I highly recommend following Messy Nessy Chic. I always find something new and interesting in her posts, especially her weekly “13 Things I Found on the Internet Today” series. Her art, travel, and culture posts remind me a bit of Maria Popova’s popular blog BrainPickings, which is part book review, part documentation of Popova’s intellectual journey; in her words, it “is my one-woman labor of love — a subjective lens on what matters in the world and why. Mostly, it’s a record of my own becoming as a person — intellectually, creatively, spiritually — and an inquiry into how to live and what it means to lead a good life.” One of my favorite posts, which I had open in a browser tab for over a year, is E.B. White’s Beautiful Letter to a Man Who Had Lost Faith in Humanity.

And I present the bonus mohawk, made for and modeled by Moose, who loves to dress up and is still wearing it 45 minutes after our photoshoot ended.

Now presenting Moose's magical mohawk! (Which is a little small & keeps sliding back but he's been wearing it for ~5 minutes now without any serious wardrobe malfunctions!)

  1. I have just checked them out – great recommendations. Moose is clearly born to model. I’d be tempted to call ?him/her Strawberry Moose for the day.

    1. I will add Strawberry Moose to his list of nicknames, which include Moosie, Moo Moo, Moosecaboose, and McMoodle! 😀

      1. Good. Clearly he didn’t have enough names already…

      2. Never enough names! The more, the better – it’s my weird way of showing love. 😛

      3. I do the same. No pet ever has just the one variation on their name. Makes me wonder how I ended up with just ‘Gill’:-)

      4. My real name is Mandy, which isn’t short for anything (not Amanda, not Samantha). But my parents didn’t let that them; because I was the youngest & smallest, I got Midget, Midge, Smidget, Smidge, and (unrelated to everything except my teddy bear, Bear Brown) Talulah Brown. Maybe I should’ve used some of those instead of madgeface, a college-era nickname.

      5. I really like madgeface!

  2. Thanks for the share – I am a big BrainPickings appreciator, and will check MN out. Strange – I once lived with a black lab named Moose(!). I found myself calling him “Moosio” after a while. Happy Friday.

    1. Happy Friday to you too! I might end up adding Moosio to his list of names now too – the more nicknames, the better!
