Tap, tap, tap … Is this thing on?

A most excellent beetle

A week ago I gave notice at a job I spent the better part of a year trying to get. Why? There was a layoff and a reorganization that moved me under another manager, with much more than I could handle.

More on why: I went from being responsible for documenting 2 products to 5 (or 6, if they ever decide on that last one) with at least two major releases each month until the end of the year. Dear reader, no tech writer could handle all of that and my manager – sorry, my functional manager, my former boss – told me as much. I’m not equipped for a high stress, low certainty environment, and it’s already been affecting me; I spent the weekend of July 4 worrying and have woken up about once a week at 3 am, unable to go back to sleep. I thought the company was in a more stable place (maybe they were!) in January when I took the job and that was confirmed for me when they flew us all to Las Vegas for 5 days of meetings and team building. Anyway …

Job woes. So, I’m going to make a comeback here and breathe some life back into this old thing while I look for another job.

Things you can expect to read about: the Alhambra scarf I just finished, the hand spun sweater I’ve been working on since early last winter, this beetle whose colors I can’t stop thinking about, job hunting, technical writing, what it’s like to have an empty nest (Henry is about to go to college!) with two college grads who boomeranged home, and more.

    1. Thank you! And I’m sure we’re not the only ones who’ve been absent here; there was a powerful draw to (other?) social media but that landscape – at least with Meta – is almost hostile to users, so I suspect/hope that more folks will start blogging again.
